The project builds the ecosystem around PySAL: library
capabilities, educational resources, and collaboration across academia,
government, and industry. Through it, PySAL both draws on and contributes to the
wider scientific Python stack, and the broader community helps carry the
maintenance load that academic software otherwise struggles to sustain. Eli’s
packages, among them segregation, tobler, and geosnap, sit inside
or on top of that ecosystem.
Outputs include the Spatial Data Science Summit at the Berkeley Institute for Data Science (March 2026), which Eli co-organized, and its report, Toward a Coordinated Open Ecosystem for Spatial Data Science.
